The region is one of the most species-rich in Central Europe and is considered a top European destination for nature lovers and bird watchers all year round. More than 350 bird species have already been recorded here. In particular, the habitats on the eastern shore of Lake Neusiedl, in the so-called Seewinkel, are home to a large number of bird species. These include such extraordinary ones as the great bustard, bee-eater, hoopoe and imperial eagle.
